The killer cell’s pseudopod-like organelles identify the "nude" tumor cell. Elements known as perforines, produced by killer-cells partially digest the tumor cell step by step and then eradicate it (see arrow). During this process cytokines (the signal-transducers of the immune-defense mechanism described here) are transferred to the further immune-system-cells.
During the process of recognition, defense and eradication of tumor cells depicted in Fig. 1-4, the immune system’s defensive cells release their cytokines ( signal carriers that target the tumor-cells) thus enabling the defensive cells to communicate with each other specifically. This allows optimal coordinated action on the part of all immune- defensive cells involved in the attacking process.

Under this laboratory process generated patient’s autologous (i.e. own) tumor-specific defensive signals (cytokines) in the next step are infused back into the patient. This enables the patient’s defensive cells to “read”this autologous signals (like a wanted-paper) to identify and attack the cancer cells in patient. Having received these signals in this fully natural manner, patients immune system is “empowered”to begin eradicating the tumor in patient´s own organism.
